was formed January 1, 1995 by the merger of Cornerstone Insurance Agency and Ragland Insurance Agency. This merger brought four principals together as partners - William E. Strother, CPCU, D. Gregg Lafitte, Cruger S. Ragland, CPCU and W. Scott Ragland CPCU, CIC, AAI. These four bring a rich insurance heritage to Ragland, Strother and Lafitte.
The Ragland family date their insurance agency history back to the early 1900's, when Cruger's grandfather, Cruger T. Smith was a partner in the Craddock and Smith Insurance Agency. Mr. Smith's son-in-law, Alphonso Ragland, Jr., Cruger's father, left that agency and founded Ragland Insurance Agency in 1943. Cruger joined his father in 1954 after graduating from the University of Texas . Unfortunately, Fonse Ragland was killed in an automobile accident in 1958 and Cruger operated alone until Scott joined him in 1978. All three of the Raglands received their CPCU designations and when Scott received his designation in 1983, he was the first third generation person to receive the CPCU designation. Cruger T. Smith was president of the Texas Association of Insurance Agents in 1915. Cruger Ragland was president in 1981, and Scott was president in 1998.
After obtaining a BBA from the University of Texas at Austin in 1978, Gregg Lafitte began a career in the building material business. Between 1978 and 1986 he founded and operated a building materials distribution operation serving North Texas, American Building Centers, Inc. In 1986 he sold the operation and joined the firm of Cornerstone Insurance Agency. In 1989 he merged this operation with Bill Strother. Then in 1995, the Cornerstone Agency merged with the Ragland Insurance Agency to form the agency known as Ragland Strother & Lafitte where he is a partner.
Gregg has served the Independent Insurance Agents of Texas as Chairman of the Convention Golf Committee and on the Independent Insurance Agents Junior Golf Classic Board. He has also served on the Board of the Insurance Agents of Dallas and the Texas Workers Compensation Insurance Fund Advisory Board . Civically, he is a member of the Salesmanship Club of Dallas, Dallas Country Club, past President of the three different Highland Park Independent School District Dad's Clubs, Park Cities Presbyterian Church, the Board of Dallas K Life, and Board of Directors of Southwest Reined Cowhorse Association . He is married and has two children.
Bill Strother joined the Carl H. Hunt Agency as a solicitor after discharge from the Air Force in 1957. In 1959 he left the Hunt Agency to become a partner with John Savage in Strother-Savage and Company. In 1964, Bill moved to an office in the Highland Park Village and started the Strother Insurance Agency. In 1971, he joined David Noel and Don Greaves and a year later they formed Noel, Greaves and Strother. In 1989, Bill merged his book of business into the Cornerstone Insurance Agency, forming a partnership with Gregg Lafitte. Bill received his CPCU designation in 1961 and was president of the Texas Association of Insurance Agents in 1987. Bill Strother retired in 2001.
